Woodrow "Woody" Weight

Woodrow Weight, age 96, of Springville, Utah passed away peacefully August 17, 2014 in the Legacy House Assisted Living Center in Spanish Fork, Utah from causes incident to aging.
Woodrow was born December 6, 1917 in Springville, Utah to George A. and Hannah Lenora Childs Weight. After graduating from Springville High School, he attended Utah State University and Brigham Young University. While at Springville High School, he took an active part in sports, dramatics, and student government.
Mr. Weight was actively involved in civic affairs, having been one of the founders of the Springville Playhouse and participating in productions as a cast member and director for 40 years. He was a charter member of the Springville 20-30 Club, served as a member the Board of Directors of the Springville Chamber of Commerce, was an official of Springville political parties, and served on the Art City Days Celebration committee for a number of years.
Mr. Weight was also very active in the LDS church. He served in Ward and Stake leadership positions in the MIA; directed roadshows and other performances; served as a member of the 6th Ward bishopric as counselor; and later was a Ward and Stake clerk. He and his wife, Edna, served a welfare mission at the Spanish Fork Employment Center from 1991 to 1993.
Mr. Weight was employed at Art City Publishing Company, publisher of the Springville Herald, for 33 years, working up to be a local sports writer and later Managing Editor. After that he was employed for 14 years at Brigham Young University Press, retiring in May 1986.
On June 13, 1941 Mr. Weight married Lucille Miller in the Manti LDS Temple. They had five sons and a daughter: Larry D. (Karin) Weight, Provo; Lynn E. (Carol) Weight, Lehi; Shirl R. (Toni) Weight, North Ogden; Susan (Steve) Bartholomew, Springville; Randy K. Weight, Apollo Beach, Florida; and Danny R. Weight (Cathy, deceased), Springville. Woodrow and Lucille were divorced on January 24, 1983.
Mr. Weight married Norma Roylance Jenkins, on July 14, 1984. She passed away on October 13, 1988.
Mr. Weight married Edna Mae Henderson Young on August 31, 1990 in Springville, and Edna survives him, as well as his 6 children, 19 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and a number of stepchildren and step grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 22, 2014 at the Springville 7th Ward Canyon Chapel, 1965 E Canyon Road, Springville. Viewings will be held Thursday night from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E 200 S, Springville, UT and the day of the funeral from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.
