Winford Smith Rowley Jr. began his life on October 19, 1951, in Brownwood, Texas, as the son of LeeOdie and Winford Smith Rowley Sr. Winford was a loving and generous man whose life ended on Sunday, March 6, 2011.
He touched the hearts and lives of his children with his passion for the outdoors and was always there to listen and give the best advice for anyone who needed anything. He truly enjoyed helping others. He loved being a grandpa and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren about hunting and fishing. He could always be found trapping, hunting, fishing, gardening or just exploring. His kids remember their father taking them camping and fishing at least once every month in spring and summer.
Winford had many stories of the outdoors, but one that represents his life was the story of the one legged coyote. Year after year he tried to outsmart the same coyote that he had once caught, but had gotten away. The coyote thought he would outsmart Winford by setting the trap off and then eating the bait. This would frustrate Winford to no end. But anyone who knew him knows that he doesn't give up. Finally, after many attempts Winford caught the coyote for the second time, and this time he would be triumphant. Winford lived his life this way to the end. He was so stubborn and strong willed and had such a desire to live for his children that he fought for 15 years when given only months to live, several different times.
After 16 years of service he retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1995. He was a hard and dedicated worker and was passionate about his work.
He is reunited with his mom and dad and his brother Wesley Irvin and sister Cindy Ann. Winford leaves behind his children: Corey, Casey & Hillery, Codey & Priscila, Coley, Carey & Shay, and Cobey. He also leaves behind his 6 siblings, 15 grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews. He will be terribly missed and may he touch as many on his continuing spiritual path as he has here.
Our family invites you to share with us in a remembrance of his life at the Springville City Cemetery on Saturday March 19, 2011 at 10 am with a luncheon to follow at the Spring Creek 9th Ward Church at 355 East Center, in Springville. Just as he embraced everyone, we embrace Winford in our hearts. It was a true privilege to know him. Thank you for being a part of our lives DAD. We will miss you dearly.
