1937 ~ 2014
William Everett Mitchell passed away peacefully on January 4, 2014, surrounded by his wife and children. Bill, as he was known during his lifetime, was born August 7, 1937 in Provo, UT to Brig and Mary Mitchell. He is the oldest of eight children, Jan (Bud) (deceased) Bentley, Joyce (Frank) Sumner, Virginia (deceased) (Jack) Hansen, Duff (Cathi) Mitchell, Barbara (Mike) Doerk, Vicki (Greg) Jones, Jon (Carol) Mitchell. He grew up in Provo and at Strawberry Reservoir. In 1955 he graduated from Provo High School. He later attended Southern Utah University and Brigham Young University.
On September 5
th
, 1956 he married his eternal companion Della Gogarty in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They have been married for 57 years. He is the father of four children; Kristie Mitchell, Portland, OR, Wendy (Brad) Kirt, Grand Blanc, MI, Becky (Todd) Tanner, Tucson, AZ and Scott (Wendy) Mitchell Mapleton, UT. He is also, the grandpa to nine grandchildren Brock, Joshua, Haylee, Ashleigh, Mitchell, Madison Wyatt, Zach, and Sydney.
Bill lived a full life and was always challenging himself to learn new things. He taught himself how to paint and became a very talented artist. Several of his paintings are the envy of his family and friends, especially,
The Polar Bear
. He has been a voracious reader throughout his life often reading several books at one time. He had a deep desire to learn about many subjects. He was very bright and well read. He has a collection of thousands of books that are placed throughout his home that attest to this. He spent the later part of his life deeply entrenched in family history. He was able to find and link thousands of his ancestors to his family tree. Several family members have had the privilege of doing temple work from his efforts. His work has now been passed on to other family members.
During his lifetime Bill had a wide array of occupations, and along the way touched the lives of many of his employees and co-workers, which forged many rich and lasting friendships. He was always compassionate towards and had a unique way to relate to the down trodden. He had a big heart and would give you the shirt off his back.
He was an active member of the LDS Church and had the privilege of serving in many capacities during his lifetime. He also served an LDS mission with his wife to the Sacramento, CA area.
In the last four years of his life he had a mighty struggle with a very painful disease. With the support of his wife, family, friends and the ministering angels of Heaven he endured this challenge and his life well. He has now been removed from the burdens and trials of this life to rest for a season, in the companionship of his parents, sister and many friends and relatives who have gone before. We will miss our dad, husband, brother, grandpa and friend and we look forward in faith to a joyous reunion.
