1923~2014
Richard passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014 in the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, UT. He was 91. Rich was born in Sanford, Colorado on April 6, 1923, to Wm. Alma Crowther and Marcella Christensen, one of 2 boys and 7 girls.
He married Shirley Hair in 1942, they divorced in 1970. Together they had 4 children. He married Elwanda Brock George in Florida on September 6, 2008. They came to Utah to live in 2010.
Rich was one of the few surviving WWII veterans, having served in the Okinawa Invasion. He always acknowledged the protection he received from Heavenly Father during his war time career. He was always proud to wear his Veteran's ball cap.
He and Elwanda were member of the LDS Church and members of the Hobble Creek 13
th
Ward in Springville. He loved the Lord, loved life and was a prayerful man. Rich lived a very full life working in lots of different jobs, from Geneva Steel to a catering delivery business in California and Arizona. He was quite a sports enthusiast and loved watching his favorite teams play.
He is survived by his wife, Elwanda; daughters: Karen Ann, Launa Kay and Sheri Jo and one son, Richard Gary; several grand and great grandchildren and 3 siblings: Fern Van Sickle, Robert Crowther and Janette Black. He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E 200 S, Springville, UT. A viewing will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the services. Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Sanford Colorado Cemetery with Military Rites by the American Legion.
