Wendell H Barker of Springville, Utah, passed away May 22, 2011, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Ogden, Utah, on January 31, 1925, to Frederick and Della Hickenlooper Barker, and was raised on the family farm in North Ogden.
After serving his mission in Southern California, Wendell married his sweetheart, Dorothy Johnson, on October 25, 1948, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they served LDS church missions in Florida Tallahassee and Pennsylvania Harrisburg.
He was an accomplished musician who played the saxophone and clarinet in dance bands for many years and continued to play, his last performance at age 85. Wendell will be remembered for his unceasing, quiet service to his family, his home teaching families and widows. He was famous for his barbeque chicken and tri-tip, which was enjoyed by thousands of people over the years. He had an amazing green thumb and loved to share the roses and produce he grew.
He was passionate about supporting his children and grandchildren in whatever activities and talents they pursued. All who knew him were touched by his kindness, humility, hard work, and his concern for others' well being.
Wendell is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Johnson, and their five children: Lynette (Stan) Smithhart, Shelly (Randy) Adams, Bruce (Kathy) Barker, Craig (Pennie) Barker and Doug (Fusako) Barker. They have 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
