Walter A Walser

Walter A. Walser, surrounded by his loving family, peacefully passed away January 29, 2009. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.



He was born July 20, 1919 in Colonia Juarez, Mexico, the first born to Alma and Asenath Skousen Walser. He was raised and educated in El Paso, Texas and had the distinction of being baptized at age eight a member of the LDS church in the mighty Rio Grande. He answered the call of his country to serve and joined the Army Air Corps in 1941. On a rare trip home on leave, he met the most important person in his life, Ernestine Whetten. He was smitten and knowing he was shipping out to Europe soon, he proposed. They were married by an army chaplain in Topeka, Kansas on November 16, 1943, two short days before he left.



He served his country well, was shot down three times, with the last ending in Switzerland where he spent 11 months before being released. At last Ernestine and Walter were reunited and sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple.



Walter moved the family to Lander, Wyoming where he spent the next 20 years working for the Atlantic City iron ore mine. He loved the mountains and the hunting and fishing that they provided. He was notorious for fishing in every stream, lake, pond and river Wyoming could provide as well as hunting in every season. The family was treated to many new and creative dishes all provided for by his hunting and fishing prowess.



He served faithfully in every calling from Primary teacher to Bishop. Most of all, he loved serving missions alongside his eternal sweetheart. They served in Lima, Peru, the Mexico City Temple, and the Santiago, Chile Temple then returned home to serve in the Provo Temple.



Walter is survived by five children: Wayne (Sherry), Evelyn Mosher (Jim), Debbie Augustus (Tom), Karl (Debbie), and Alesia Bischoff (Jim); brothers: Roy, Stansel and Kenneth; sisters: Lucille, Helen, and Melba. He was the proud grandfather of 20 and great-grandfather of 14. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine, his parents, daughter Jane, grandson Nathan and sisters Asenath and Betty all of whom are rejoicing in their reunion with him.



Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 4 at 11 am, in the Mapleton Stake Center, located at 970 North 400 East, Mapleton. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 82 West 400 North, Mapleton, or Wednesday at the church one hour prior to services. Internment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery with full military honors.
