Vontella “Vonnie” Gardner Smith
Died on Aug. 19th, 2016 in Payson Utah. She was 89 years old.
She died of congestive heart failure. Vontella was born November 9, 1926 in Salem Utah, to Harvey Clark Gardner and Alice Horrocks. She was married to Keith Smith on June 5, 1945 and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
She was an active person spending her time with the people she loved. She was a Primary President, a Relief Society President and a Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A mentor to young management wives of US Steel Executives.
She raised her family in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Chicago. She returned home to Utah after Keith retired from US steel in Chicago.
Vonnie had great artistic talent and took art classes at the art institute of Chicago. She Graduated from Springville High School as an enthusiastic Springville Red Devil.
She loved children and has been a beautiful and caring Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Vontella is survived by her brothers Larry and Eldon, and her sister Eileen, her 4 children Kristie Snowder, Greg Smith, Candy Sorensen and Brad Smith. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
She has left a legacy of love, integrity and a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Mom we will miss you.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday on August 27, 2016 At the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1050 North 300 West, Mapleton, Utah, 84664. Viewing is at 10AM to 11:30AM. Family Prayer 11:45AM. Funeral Services begin at 12-1PM. Burial will be in the Lehi City Cemetery at 2PM.
