Vincent West, 94, of Springville, UT passed away December 12, 2009 at his home. He was born September 30, 1915 in Spanish Fork, UT to James Albert and Eliza Ann Vincent West. He married Marion Marie Barker on June 20, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Vincent was raised in Spanish Fork and Benjamin, UT and was a graduate of Spanish Fork High School. He worked in the CC camp in Idaho, then served in the armed forces during World War II. After marriage the family lived in Tooele and Sunset, UT, where he retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1973. They then settled in Springville, UT.
Vincent was an avid fisherman, gardener and traveler during his life. He and his wife visited all 50 states, plus Canada and Mexico. He was a High Priest in the Springville 7th Ward where he enjoyed being a door greeter. He and his wife served as tour guides at the Provo Tabernacle.
He is survived by his wife, Marie of Springville; two daughters: Afton (Gary) Stanley, Sunset, UT and Calene (Charles) Summer, Austin TX; a sister, Blanche (Dean) Barker; a brother (Ralph (Elizabeth) West; one sister-in-law, Deloris West; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the LDS Chapel on 1965 East Canyon Road, Springville, UT. Friends may call at a viewing on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mapleton Wheeler Mortuary, 82 W 400 N, Mapleton, UT or Thursday at the church, one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Hearts for Hospice for the kindness and caring they gave to Vincent during his time of need.
