Verl Lionel Averett

May 2, 1921 — March 28, 2015

Verl Lionel Averett was born May 2, 1921. He would have been 94 years old in a month. His son Keith, daughters Karen and Kathleen, and daughter-in-law Beverly Averett were at his bedside as he returned to his family and savior. He had been experiencing the affects of age for some time and died of natural causes at his home in St. George. He was the son of Lionel Averett whose family lived in the Springville area and Ivy Gabbitas. His two sisters Vera Bert and Ardith MacKay both passed away several years ago. Prior to entering the service Verl served a mission in the Southern States Mission. Verl met and fell in love with a young woman named Phyllis Bowden. While he was serving in the Army Air Corps the two of them were married and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

Verl and Phyllis were blessed with 5 children, Keith, Kathleen, Karen, Kenneth, and Kelly. All the "K's" presented a problem when figuring out which child was being called to task. He is survived by Keith and Beverly Averett (6 Grand, 21 Great-Grand, 1 Great-Great-Grand child), Kathleen and Arnold Hamilton (3 Grand, 10 Great-Grand, 6 Great-Great-Grand children), Karen and Paul Davidson (6 Grand, 21 Great-Grand children), and Kelly and Marcia Averett (3 Grand, 1 Great-Grand Child). His loving wife of 68 years died 2 1/2 years ago and was greatly missed. Also preceding him in death were two grand children and one great grandchild along with his son Kenneth (6 Grand, 8 Great Grand children). Adding it all together means Verl and Phyllis were responsible for, or as dad would say "Look What I've Done!", 5 Children, 44 Grand Children, 59 Great-Grand Children, and 8 Great-Great-Grand Children. That's a total of 116 creations!

Dad will be missed and his passing was a mixture of sadness at his leaving and joy knowing he would be immediately reunited with his Savior, his wife Phyllis and other friends and family.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E 200 S, Springville, UT. A viewing will be held at the Mortuary at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, prior to the services. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
