Vera Jane Carter Engle, 85, passed away peacefully from old age and complications from Post Polio Syndrome, Wednesday January 27, 2010. She was born April 29, 1924 in Nephi, Utah to John and Ethel Carter. She married William A. Engle, September 10, 1950. They were later sealed in the LDS Temple.
When Vera was nine years old her family moved to Wanship, Utah. They later moved to Coalville, Utah where her parents owned and operated the Carter Hotel and Cafe. She was working there when she met Bill.
Vera and Bill traveled the state, moving wherever Bill's work in construction took him. They were determined to keep their family together as much as possible. They finally settled in Mapleton, Utah, where they lived for many years. Vera moved to a retirement center in Orem a few years after Bill's death in 1994. She was living in a Beehive Home in American Fork when she passed.
Vera was an excellent seamstress and cook. She made fabulous pies. Her daughters are still trying to catch up with her homemaking and organizational skills. The odds are not looking good.
She is survived by her son and daughters Linda (David) Alleman, Robert (Merja)
Engle, South Jordan and Paula Engle, Orem; sisters Udene Wilde and Barbara Carter Engle; 10 grandchildren and 8 �'s great grand children. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill, brothers Lloyd and Vern Carter and sister Ruth Wilde.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2010 at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., Springville. There will be a viewing held from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
