1936~2014
Vasco Ray Taylor, 78, of Mapleton, Utah, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on August 29, 2014 in Provo, Utah. Ray was born in Freedom, Utah on July 26, 1936 to Alden Ray Taylor and Koa Ellen Lazenby.
He graduated from Ely (Nevada) High school and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology with High Honors and a Master's Degree from the University of Utah.
Ray was married to Mary Erickson on June 22, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 53 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings; including two missions, one in Frankfurt Germany, from 1956 to 1959 and the other he served with his wife at the Family History Training Center in Provo Utah.
Ray worked as a Research Meteorologist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Satellite and Information Service for 31 years. He enjoyed bird watching, astronomy, stamp and coin collecting, reading, learning new things, and discovering new places on travels with his family.
Ray is survived by his wife, two children, Alden Ray (Andrea Rachelle) Taylor and Katrina Lyn (Wm. Craig) Nebeker, seven grandchildren, a sister, Lynn (Phil) Mason, and other family and friends.Ray is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Donna, and her husband Melvin Bonsteel, and nephew Clayton Bonsteel.
The family appreciates all of the love and support from friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 6

at 11:30 am, at the Mapleton Utah Stake Center, 970 N 400 E, in Mapleton, Utah. Viewings will be held at 6-8 pm, Friday, September 5
th
at Wheeler Mortuary, 82 W 400 N, in Mapleton, Utah, and also one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be at the Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 E. 4580 S., Salt Lake City.
