Tobias Lindsay Olson

March 17, 2005 — November 8, 2024

Provo

Tobias Lindsay Olson, 19, of Tijeras, NM, passed away Friday, November 8th, 2024. He was born March 17th, 2005, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Spencer Eugene Olson and Renee Stubbert Olson.

At the age of 5, Toby’s family moved to the mountains east of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Under the tall ponderosa pines he shot the bow, gazed at the clear nighttime skies while sleeping on the trampoline, and discovered a variety of southwest creatures (horny toads, phasmids, mantises, all manner of moths, and much, much more that he brought into the house). He attended Estancia Valley Classical Academy, a Hillsdale Charter School, from 2nd grade until graduation in 2023. He competed in athletics for Moriarty High School and received varsity letters in cross country, wrestling, and track.

Toby was wicked smart and was a sophomore studying physics at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. His witticisms were legendary, blending his knowledge of history, science, literature, and philosophy. Word play and rhetoric were natural to him. He loved athletics, including wrestling, weightlifting, rock climbing, and backpacking. He was an avid gamer; strategy games with his friends, video games with his brothers, and party games with everyone else. He naturally welcomed and effectively adopted many new siblings through the student exchange program from around the world, including Alex and Yannick (Germany), Majid (Tajikistan), Pratt (Thailand), Nicole (Brazil), and others. He was beloved by his family and will be greatly missed. He was full of smiles and laughter and always included younger cousins and siblings of friends in activities. Toby was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had a great love for the Lord and had a desire to serve Him.

Toby is survived by his parents, his older brothers Wesley (Molly) Olson and Micah (Lydia) Olson, his younger sister Rachel Olson, his grandparents Roger and Karen Olson of Springville, Utah, grandparents Lee and Helen Stubbert of Tomball, Texas.

A memorial service will be held in Edgewood, New Mexico, Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10:00 am in the Edgewood Chapel for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 18 Edgewood 7. Another service will be held in Provo, Utah, Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 11:00 am in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel just east of the Missionary Training Center, located at 925 North Temple Drive, Provo, Utah. A viewing for friends and family will be held before the Provo service on the 26th from 10:30 to 11:00 am. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
