Thomas Neil Haymond, 85, of Orem passed away Monday, October 24, 2022 of congestive heart failure.
Tom was born in Provo, on March 8, 1937 to Thomas Melvin Haymond and Maureen Whiting. His father later married his stepmother Vivian Jorgensen.
At age twelve, Tom started working for his father and uncles at Whiting and Haymond Construction. They built many roads all over the state of Utah with some road construction in Wyoming, Arizona and Colorado.
Tom served an LDS mission from 1957 to 1959 in the Hawaiian Islands. Shortly thereafter, he married his high school sweetheart, Raenee Clayson, June 6, 1959 in the Los Angeles Temple.
He graduated from BYU in 1960 earning a degree in accounting. His first job was in banking in Los Angeles California. After two years, he moved to Fresno California. There he worked as assistant manager at the Far West Branch and First Western Bank. Tom spent the remainder of his banking career at First Security Bank. Within that 25-year period, he went from loan officer to Vice President and Central Division Credit Manager. He also achieved an advanced degree in banking at the Pacific Coast Banking School in Seattle.
Tom was active in community service organizations. He was president of the Optimist Club in Fresno. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Provo. He was also vice chair of the Provo Freedom Festival. He was a member of the Provo Chamber of Commerce. Lastly, he was chairman of the Commercial Division of the 1975 United Way Campaign.
Tom Haymond was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all his life. Some of his church service included serving as bishop in a BYU ward for five years. He also served in the Mission Training Center as both a counselor in a branch presidency and later as the branch president.
Tom was an outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing and camping with his family. His sons and grandsons looked forward to going on deer and rabbit hunts with their father/grandfather. For many years, he golfed every Wednesday with his friends.
He loved growing roses (Raenee often used them in the flower arrangements she took to the MTC). He also cared for his many fruit trees and always had a productive vegetable garden.
Tom had a great interest in genealogy and family history research. He spent forty years collecting information, interviewing family members and copying family history data and then distributing what he gathered to other relatives. This information was instrumental in compiling the dates, pictures and stories that were later used in the publication of the book, Life Sketches of Haymond Ancestors. He was also involved in helping to organize family reunions and oversaw the restoration of several headstones of his ancestors. He was also responsible for creating a monument for the first Haymond pioneer ancestors: Edward Owen Haymond and Margaret Ann Cecil / Sissell.
Family meant everything to Tom. He enjoyed every opportunity he could to spend time together. Tom and Raenee have five children, sixteen grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren who loved him dearly.
