T. Allen Lambert, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend passed away Wednesday morning, August 1
st
, after a courageous struggle with lymphoma. Born June 27, 1940 to Theron and Verl Lambert, Allen was the oldest of seven. After growing up primarily in San Diego, CA, Allen attended the University of Utah and later graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University.
A lifelong and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Allen left college for two and a half years to serve a mission for his faith in France, an experience that would serve him with foundational lessons and fascinating stories for the rest of his life.
Knowledge and learning were among Allen's most important passions. While a lifelong student of many subjects, his graduate work focused on the human sciences, particularly sociology. He received a Master's in the subject from WashingtonUniversity in St. Louis, and did PhD work there, at CornellUniversity, and at SUNY-Albany. Communicating what knowledge he gained was an especial joy of his and he was able to teach at several universities and colleges. His favorite area of teaching, though, was his faith, and he relished every opportunity afforded him to teach Sunday School and Priesthood classes in his LDS congregation.
In addition to a primary commitment to the life of the mind, Allen was a successful entrepreneur and started and ran stereo and computer businesses over the years.
Allen was also thoroughly committed to the public good. His love of learning drove a devotion to education and he served two terms on the ICSD school board and remained actively involved when not on the board. Meanwhile, his commitment to his own faith along with conviction that people of all faiths could strengthen each other through community and dialogue led to over two decades of involvement in Cornell United Religious Work and Area Congregations Together as the long term representative from the LDS congregation.
Family, both immediate and extended, was ultimately Allen's main priority. He and Cynthia Jean James were married and sealed for eternity on August 29
th
, 1978 in the Salt Lake City, Utah Mormon Temple. His children, Enoch and Sara, were his pride and joy, and he spent countless hours devoted to their development and success throughout their formative years and into adulthood. In recent years, while sick himself, he spent much time visiting his 101-year-old mother in Utah, helping her to maintain her independence as long as possible.
In retirement, Allen returned to motorcycling and, more recently, an interest in hunting. While he was able to conquer thousands of miles of pavement through many of this country's most beautiful and exhilirating motorcycle rides, including an epic journey through several mountain ranges and along Rt. 66 with his son, the latter interest went underdeveloped and there's a moose somewhere in Maine that owes its life to lymphoma.
Finally, Allen loved children and was thrilled by the recent influx of young couples with children to his neighborhood. He was overjoyed by the time he got to spend with his wonderful first grandson, Austin.
Allen is survived by his wife, Cindy, son, Enoch, daughter, Sara Riley, son-in-law, Kevin Riley, grandson Austin, his mother, Verl, his brothers and their spouses Roger and Sue Anne, Dale and Jan, Glen and Mary Jane, Kevin and Angela, Ralph and Lisa, his sister, Linda Bateman and husband Kim, a loving extended family, and his motorcycle "gang", the "Ithaca Blues".
Visiting hours will be at the Herson Wagner funeral home on Sunday from 6-730 pm. A funeral will be held on Monday, August 5
