Tatiana Marina (Popof) Tuohy

October 21, 1956 — February 20, 2023

Springville, Utah

Tatiana Marina Popof Tuohy, 66, of Springville, Utah, passed away Monday, February 20, 2023, after a six year long battle with cancer. It was a valiant fight which she faced with unflinching courage. Always positive, she never once complained or felt sorry for herself.  She was born on October 21, 1956, in Norfolk, Virginia to Valentine George Popof and Mary Elizabeth Richardson Popof. She married Daniel Kevin Tuohy on September 23, 1994, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tatiana spent her early years growing up in Rockville, MD. She and her family moved to Prescott, AZ in 1972, where she would live for many years. Tatiana earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in French in 1980 from University of Arizona and a Masters of Arts in French from University of California Santa Barbara a few years later.

In 1980, upon graduating from college, she returned to Prescott and began her career as a foreign language instructor at Yavapai College. While teaching college, she still managed to complete multiple study abroad programs. For one of these, she was awarded a Rotary Club International scholarship, which allowed her the opportunity to study in Belgium, France and Spain. She also volunteered at an orphanage in Chiapas, Mexico and was involved in many civic programs in the Prescott area. It was through her work as a teacher at Embry-Riddle University that she met her future husband and best friend Daniel.

Tatiana was a very musical person; she   enjoyed a wide variety of music and sang in choir and for many years. She loved dancing in her local folk dancing group. She also loved to travel and visited dozens of foreign countries, making numerous lifelong friendships along the way.

After 14 years of teaching, she gave up her career and moved to Springville, Utah to do the one thing in life she loved more than teaching. She became a wife, a mother and a homemaker. This was her proudest accomplishment, in a life of many accomplishments. Her home was a magnet for all of the neighborhood children to visit and play. Everyone was always welcome in her home.

Tatiana never regretted her decision to give up a teaching career to be a homemaker, but she always remained a teacher at heart. So, with her limited free time, she volunteered as a kindergarten teaching assistant for many years at Westside Elementary School. Even when she had to give up volunteering due to her poor health, she still managed to tutor children from her neighborhood who needed a little extra help with their studies.

Tatiana was a wonderful and dedicated mother and a beloved wife, sister, daughter, aunt, neighbor, and friend to all who knew her. Tatiana is survived by her husband: Daniel Kevin Tuohy of Springville, Utah, and her daughter: Kristina Blanche (Tuohy) West of Springville, Utah.

Memorial services for Tatiana will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, located at 211 East 200 South, Springville, Utah. Following the service, a luncheon will be provided.
