Suellen Kay Allman, aged 75, of Orem, Utah, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at home with her family after fighting like hell to live. She was born to Florence Mildred Simmons Kay and Eldred Ephraim “Fuzz” Kay on July 9, 1943.
Suellen grew up in Provo, where she learned her love of dance and sewing. Her cousins were her best friends and co-conspirators. She had many girlfriends from childhood who became life-long friends. She graduated from Provo High School and attended BYU, where she spent many joyful hours dancing on the ballroom dance team. She was the 1961 American Fork National Guard beauty queen attendant. She loved to play bridge with her friends. She was an avid quilter and seamstress, making blankets and clothes for friends and family all her life.
She married Don Handy and together they had two daughters. They divorced, and she married Don J. Allman on September 4, 1970. Together they raised four daughters at their home in Springville. The family spent many happy hours boating together at Lake Powell and Deer Creek. Suellen always supported her daughters in all of their endeavors, from dance to gymnastics to education. She loved being a grandma and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family gathered often for parties in her backyard and there are many memories of laughter and great food. She wanted a large family and was blessed to have one.
She is survived by four daughters, Michele Snow (Troy), Suzette Kimball, Amy Sorensen (Kendell), and Rebecca Kump (Shane), 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Don J. Allman, her parents, her brother Lynn Kay, her son-in-law Steven Lee Kimball, and her great-grandson Glenn Bitton.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 28, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 670 E 800 N, in Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held at the same location from 12:00-12:45 p.m. prior to the funeral services. Burial at Provo City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent at www.wheelermortuaries.com
