Stephen Jay Noyes, 79, of Springville, Utah, returned to his Heavenly Family on Sunday, February 12, 2023, in Lehi, Utah. He quietly endured Alzheimer's for over 10 years with grace and dignity. Stephen was born July 18, 1943, in Salina, Utah, to Alice Denison and Joseph Reed Noyes, the fourth of four children.
Stephen was a farm boy raised in Ephraim, Utah in humble circumstances with love and righteousness that helped build his firm testimony of the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He worked hard on his family farm herding and milking dairy cows twice a day, caring for livestock, and tending to crops, an orchard, and a large garden. He graduated from Manti High School. He served his country for six months in the U.S. Army and six years in the Army National Guard.
Stephen attended Snow College where he met his bride Martha Jean Wallace. Stephen and Jean were married December 18, 1965, in the Manti Utah Temple. They completed their college educations at Utah State University. Stephen graduated with a Masters degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering. He was a Water Quality Specialist for the Bureau of Reclamation for the western states for over 40 years. He helped build and maintain Jordanelle Reservoir and other reservoirs in the Uinta Basin.
Stephen and Jean were blessed with four children: Angela Lynn Noyes Lee, Eric Reed Noyes, Devin Jay Noyes, and Clinton Sidney Noyes. With their four children and spouses, Stephen and Jean’s posterity now numbers 27. They raised their family and lived in Springville, Utah for 46 years. Stephen is a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, shooting, attending rodeos, traveling, fixing things around the house, and playing games (especially chess).
Stephen was a devoted and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young man he served as a missionary in the Great Lakes Mission. Together with Jean, they served as temple workers in the Provo Utah Temple. They enjoyed serving the young missionaries from the Missionary Training Center as they attended the temple while preparing to share the gospel. Stephen gladly served in any capacity to which he was called, including Ward Clerk, Sunday School presidency and teacher, Elder’s Quorum counselor, High Priest Group Leader, Bishopric Executive Secretary, student ward Bishopric Counselor, and home teacher. Stephen’s legacy is one of service and love. We will miss you, our dear husband, father, and grandfather.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Jean, his children, Angela (Adrian) Lee, Eric (Elise) Noyes, Devin (Sharlane) Noyes, Clinton (Breanne) Noyes, and 15 precious grandchildren: Trevor (Emily), Ryan (Taylor), Riley, Megan (Jacob), Kensley, Amelia, Kenady, Jacob, Xander, Shelby, Scottland, Katelyn, Bronx, Christopher, and Madelyn. He is also survived by many loved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and extended family.
