Shirley Leyshon Averett, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister died January 1, 2012 at her home in Springville, Utah. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Nephi Leyshon and Madge Hutchinson. She was the oldest of 4 girls, Elaine (Henry) Gardner, Evelyn (Dick) Frost, and Linda (Duane) Bahr. Her family moved to Salt Lake City, and then to Springville Utah where she graduated from Springville High School.
She married Alton Wendell Averett on October 24, 1951 in the Manti Temple. They made their home in Springville and were the proud parents of 3 boys, and later, 3 daughters-in-law; James Cecil & LeAnn Averett, Michael Kay & Joan Averett, and Wendell Paul & Mary Ann Averett.
Her family enjoyed her ready smile, and she always showed everyone her love by her interest in them and her willingness to serve. The family enjoyed camping and trips to see the beautiful world around us. These times were always happy, cherished family time.
She was an excellent seamstress. She would often make clothing for the family and pajamas for the grandchildren at Christmas.
She was a faithful person who was always willing to serve her church and neighbors.
We will all miss her cheerful smile, love, and positive attitude, but none of us more that her faithful husband.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter Rebecca Averett, and great-grandson Cody Snyder.
She is survived by her husband Wendell Averett, her 3 sons and their spouses and 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held at the Springville Center Street Chapel at 11 AM on Thursday January 5. There will be viewings on January 4th (Wednesday evening) from 6 to 8 PM at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., Springville and 10:00 to 10:45 AM on Thursday the 5th. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery following the funeral services.
