Samuel Paul Fullmer, 70, of St. George, Utah died on March 24th, 2008 at his home in Mapleton on the orchard farm where he was born. As Sam put it, "He was voted off the island" by brain cancer after a six month fight.
Sam was born February 3rd, 1938 in Mapleton, Utah to the late Clifford and Rebecca Mckell Fullmer. Sam attended Mapleton Elementary School, graduated Springville High School in 1956 and went on to attend Utah State University, in Logan, Utah. He served in the National Guard from 1954 to 1959. He married Evelyn Smith in July 1958. From this union came five children; they were later divorced. Sam married Denise Miller of St. George, Utah in June 1996.
In 1998 Sam semi retired and worked as a mortgage broker in Mesquite, Nevada. He spent sixteen years as a chemist at Reilly Tar and Chemical before launching his own real estate practice. He was a licensed real estate broker in Utah and Nevada and happily owned several businesses.
Sam was a member and High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Sam was a great outdoorsman; he loved animals and was known for his dry wit, generosity and intellect. In his late fifties, Sam fulfilled a childhood dream and started working in Yellowstone during the summers where he acquired many dear friends and did what he loved most: hiking, fishing, and enjoying nature.
Sam is survived by his wife, Denise of St. George, daughters Amy Benson (Brent) of Mapleton, Brenda Averett (Mark) of Springville, Samantha Fullmer (Anthony Holtmaat) of Geneva, Switzerland and son Michael Fullmer of Las Vegas, Nevada; his sister Gerri Adams (Max) of Midvale, and his brother Rodney Fullmer (Judy) of American Fork; his step children Bob Miller (Anne Marie) of Salina, Nicole Frei (Ryan) of Overton, Nevada, Emily Jones (Jeff) of North Las Vegas, Nevada, and Josh Miller (Krissy) of Annabella; 26 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Betty Fullmer Judd, Jane Fullmer Martell, and Laverne Fullmer Bunnell, a son Samuel Boyd, and Rogaine.
Friends and relatives are welcome at Wheeler Mortuary 211 East 200 South Tuesday evening, March 25th from 6:00 8:00. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26th at the Mapleton North Stake Center 475 North Highway 89, Mapleton, Utah. Visitation will be held prior to the services from 11:30 12:30. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
