Ruth Witney Sumsion

April 7, 1917 — July 25, 2007

Ruth Witney Sumsion, 90, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 25, 2007 at her Springville home in the loving care of her family. She was born April 7, 1917 to Daniel and Harriet Bringhurst Witney in Springville, Utah. On September 4, 1936 she married Howard Sumsion in the Salt Lake temple and then raised her four sons in Springville.

Ruth was a loving wife and a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. As a mother, her life centered around her sons and their never-ending activities in baseball, basketball and on the farm. Ruth loved the Lord and tried to keep all of His commandments. She faithfully served in many LDS church positions including a worker in the Provo temple for over twenty years and a mission with her husband to New Zealand. She also stayed active in her community with various clubs and organizations. She took pride in her home and beautiful yard and enjoyed gardening. One of her favorite activities was spending time at her ranch house in Hobble Creek Canyon. She graduated from Springville High and attended BYU-always a true blue fan. She never missed an opportunity to share her love and passion for life. She was most happy when surrounded by family and has left a legacy of treasured traditions.

Ruth is survived by her daughter-in-law Rita, Orem; sons John (Margo) London, England; Steven (Sherrie), Midvale; Floyd (Renee), Parma, Idaho; 13 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren, and her sister Melba Rasmussen, Provo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; her sisters Norma Van Patten, Marion Tippets, and Helen Witney; her brother Frank Witney; stillborn twins; her eldest son, Michael; a grandson, Alan; and a great granddaughter, Heather.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 28, 11:00 a.m. in the Spring Creek 3rd Ward Chapel, 55 N. Main Street, Springville. Friends may call at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., Springville, on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. or Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.

The family expresses appreciation to the many caring people who have helped during this difficult time.
