1931 ~ 2014
Rulon Leon Darrington, son of Lorenzo and Ruby Marie Olsen Darrington began his earthly adventure in Elba, Idaho on May 28, 1931 as their seventh of nine children. He lived 83 years and 11 days, leaving this life to continue into his next big adventure on June 8, 2014. He died in Springville, Utah of natural causes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; several siblings; two sons, Henry and Emery Nez; and a grandchild, Steven Pickering.
Rulon is survived by his companion, Avanell; 10 children and their spouses, Randy (Vicki) Darrington, Dendra (Michael) Stratton, Rory (Cheryl) Darrington, MaLawna (Bud) Meacham, LaDawna (Eric) Pickering, Rob Darrington, Richard (Julie) Darrington, Royd (Natalie) Darrington, Maridee (Met) Johnson; 56 grandchildren; a growing number of great grandchildren; his brother, John (Jolene) Darrington; and sister, Anne Barrett; sister-in-laws; Vivian, Ruth and Althora Darrington; and innumerable friends that felt like family.
Rulon was married and sealed to Avanell Montgomery June 25, 1951 in the Logan Utah Temple. Together they worked and traveled and raised their family. He loved his family and taught them to love and support each other. He also taught by word and deed that every day was an adventure! He loved to include people and to welcome them into his family. Rulon was big hearted and his personality seemed bigger than he was. He was an animated teller of stories, (some true.) He often had a contagious smile and twinkle in his eye. He was resourceful; a jack-of-all-trades hard worker. He enjoyed the outdoors; hunting and camping were ways of gathering his expanding posterity and making memories. He was a handsome grandpa that would give his grandchildren a quarter to say so.
Friends and family will gather Saturday, June 14, 2014 this Father's Day Weekend to remember him and swap stories about how his life touched ours. At 9 AM a dedicatory prayer will be offered graveside at the Toquerville Utah Cemetery and at 10 AM a Memorial Service will be held at the LDS Chapel located at 63 N Toquerville Blvd. No flowers please.
