Roy L Tanner

Roy L. Tanner was the second son and third child of Seth and Inger Marie Larsen Tanner, born on May 9, 1927 in Payson, Utah.

As a young boy, he grew up in Payson, Utah.   The family later moved to Eureka, Utah and back to Payson, eventually making Provo, Utah their final home.

At the age of 17, he joined the Navy during World War II.  He served on the USS LST 486 tank landing ship in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged on July 24, 1946.  Upon returning home, he worked various jobs eventually finding permanent employment at U.S. Steel in November of 1948 and working for 40 years before retiring to provide care to his wife.

Roy married Verlaine Larsen on January 22, 1949.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on April 30, 1954.  Roy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He had a great love for the outdoors and will always be remembered for his "pink jeep" which helped to create opportunities for mountain excursions and memories with many loved ones.

Roy very peacefully returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on June 12, 2016.  He is survived by his children Robert Tanner of Heber, Utah, June Tanner of Mapleton, Utah and Rachel (Troy) Hendrickson of Spanish Fork, Utah.  He has several grandchildren and great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sons David & Rex and siblings Helen Perkins and Gene Tanner.

Viewing will be held Friday, June 17, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the Wheeler Mortuary in Springville.  Graveside services at 1:00 p.m.  Burial will take place in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary.
