Robin Christine (Purcell) Shirts

Robin Christine Purcell Shirts, 71, of Mapleton, Utah, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022.  Robin was born June 14, 1951 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Robert Dale Purcell and Gladys Hess.  She married her wonderful husband, Steven Rex Shirts, on December 27, 1972 in the Logan Utah Temple.

Robin was a deaf education teacher, having received a Bachelor’s Degree at BYU and her Masters in Education from the University of Washington.  She taught in several different schools, including a specialized school for the deaf in El Paso, Texas. She loved works of art and volunteered for many years in elementary schools teaching a “Talking Canvas” art appreciation class. Most importantly she loved to teach about our Savior Jesus Christ at church and at home. Robin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a ministering sister, Primary Teacher, Ward Primary President, Stake Primary President, Ward Relief Society President, and Stake Relief Society President.  She was a loving wife, an angel mother, and a really fun grandma.  In word and deed she taught how to follow Jesus Christ.

Robin is survived by her husband, Steven, five children: Stacie (Dustin) Ivory of Timnath, Colorado; Micah (Shannon) Shirts of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; Ellen (Joshua) Haws of North Canton, Ohio; Keith (Shirsten) Shirts of Provo, Utah; Grant (Nikol) Shirts of Las Vegas, Nevada; and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 21, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Mapleton Second Ward Chapel at 475 North 1600 West, Mapleton, Utah.  A viewing for family and friends will be held Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary located at 211 East 200 South in Springville, and on Monday just prior to the funeral service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Burial will be in the Mapleton Cemetery at 620 West Maple Street in Mapleton following the service.
