Robert Burton Sabin

March 27, 1935 — June 15, 2016

Robert Burton Sabin passed away passed away Thursday, June 15, 2016 from complications of a stroke.  He is survived by his six children and 15 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia; granddaughter, Sarah Mooreland; his parents, Wally Sabin and Donnetta Shumway; and his brother, Joseph Sabin.

Robert was born in Mesa, Arizona and raised in Arizona and California.  He served a LDS Mission to the Central States.  He married Patricia Thompson, his wife of 50 years, in the Salt Lake City Temple.  He would say she was the best thing that ever happened to him and they had six children they raised in San Jose, California.  Bob was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout his life, his service as a faithful home teacher is especially remembered.  Robert was always willing to help anyone in need.  As a young man, he developed a love for big band music and trumpet playing. Throughout his life he organized many bands and musical projects and he was especially noted for the patriot programs he conducted.  Most recently he conducted his band the Moonlight Serenaders.   He was always on the go with many projects and hobbies over the years, and anyone who knew Bob, knew of his lifelong passionate interest in aviation and experimental aircraft.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 970 N. 400 E. in Mapleton, UT.  Viewings will be held on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mapleton Wheeler Mortuary, 82 W. 400 N. in Mapleton, UT and Saturday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services.  Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
