Our loving and kind husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away, December 30, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family.
Richard was born in Southgate, CA, September 8, 1942 to Richard and June Davis Thompson. He met his best friend and the love of his life in 1973, Patty Kim Ney. They married in 1977. They were later sealed for time and eternity in the Provo Temple. They are the parents of four wonderful children, Ryan, Melissa, Brad and Justin.
Richard worked construction in Utah, Arizona and California for many years. He was a project manager for the building of the Palo Verede Nuclear Power plant in Arizona. When we traveled he could always point out a road or building he had helped build. The job he loved the most was driving semi's and he was planning his next trip when he became too ill.
Richard loved his family and we will remember many fun fishing and camping trips.
His greatest joy was his grandchildren and he enjoyed singing with them while he played the guitar or telling them stories. He made sure each of his children and grandchildren had a nickname when they were born. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He kept us all laughing. He will also be remembered for his inability to turn away a stray animal or a person in need. He gave his family a love of the mountains and adventures.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Kim; his children: Ryan (Kimi), Melissa (Tony Johnson), Brad; grandchildren: Destiny and Bailey Jensen, Constance Thompson, Ethan Johnson and a baby girl due in March; his father and stepmother, Richard & Maureen Thompson; sister, Jeanne Anderson, many nieces and nephews, also Bill & Ludean Bishop. He was preceded in death by his son, Justin and mother, June Thompson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Kolob 1st Ward, 1230 S 500 E, Springville, UT. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., at the church. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
We would like to thank Dr. William Alward, Dr. James Rose and Utah Community Nursing Services and members of the Kolob 1st Ward in Springville, for their love, care, concern, and friendship of Richard.
