Richard Alden Oakley

August 30, 1932 — July 27, 2010

Alden was born August 30, 1932 in Springville, Utah to Mark Leland and Norma Snell Oakley; he passed away on July 27, 2010.



He married Erma Cole of Nephi on January 13, 1957 and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They have five children; David (Tammy), Santaquin; Mark (Ruby), Moroni; Diane (Jed), Springville; Autumn (Loyd), Springville and foster daughter, Janise (Baltazar), Springville. He has 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.



Alden worked for many companies such as Strawberry Water Users, Ironton Steel, RL Wilson Construction, WW Clyde and 30 years for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, from which he retired on December 29, 1990. He and his wife served 3 LDS missions; Texas Houston East Mission, Salt Lake Church Office Building service mission for 6 years and Springville Home Storage service mission for 18 months. Alden enjoyed and perfected many hobbies such as oil and water painting, wood work, lapidary, ceramics and photography. He and his wife were members of the Gold Wing Riders Club and toured the Western United States. He had a pilot's license and a small airplane which allowed him to view the great out doors that he so greatly loved, from a heavenly perspective.



He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother Leland, a son in law Loyd and great-granddaughter Selah Pappenfuss.



He is survived by his wife and children mentioned above, sisters; Marion and Julie and brother, Arvid, all his grandchildren and 6 of 7 great-grandchildren.



There will be a viewing on Sunday, August 1, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., Springville and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. just prior to the family prayer and the funeral services. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2010 at Wheeler Mortuary. Interment will follow at Springville Evergreen Cemetery located at 1997 S. 400 E.
