Richard Byron Christensen, born Apr. 3, 1929, passed away at his home on Dec 15, 2012.
He was born to Andrew Marinus and Florence Naillon Christensen in Provo, Utah and grew up in Provo, Utah where he attended and graduated from Provo High School. Richard had a twin brother Bill and they were the youngest of 8 children. He married Betty Jo Mitchell in the Salt Lake City Temple. Dick and Betty settled in Provo and had seven children, 6 boys and 1 girl. Russell Andrew, Mark Allen, Ron K., Charles Brent, Richard Craig, Bradley Kent and Susan Joy.
Dad worked most of his life for Mountain Fuel Supply/Questar where he was a serviceman and later retired. He served in the National Guard for 3 years.
Dad loved and appreciated the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life. He was an expert fisherman and spent many hours fishing on the Provo River, Strawberry reservoir, Schofield reservoir, and later in his life, Island Park. He loved hunting duck, pheasant, deer and elk. He also enjoyed playing golf at Hobble Creek Golf Course.
Dad was a handy man. He loved to fix things and spent many hours throughout his life helping his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time woodworking in his shop. Later in his life he spent many hours building bird houses for family and friends.
Dad loved to talk to people, tell stories, and he made friends wherever he lived. Later in his life he served in his high priest group and developed many good friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jo, daughter Susan Joy Sayer Christensen (Kelly), son Mark Allen, and by his parents Andrew Marinus Christensen and Florence Naillon both of Provo, Utah, brothers, Andrew Max Christensen, Jack Christensen and William Christensen; sisters, Fawn Ferguson, Mary Anhders and Norda Simkins;
He is survived by five sons Russell (Marilyn) Christensen of Provo, Ron (Debbie) Christensen of Springville, Charlie (Kim) Christensen of Elk Ridge, Richard Craig (Kim) of Mapleton, and Brad (Evelyn) Christensen of Sugar City, Idaho. 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren also survive him.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 20, at 11:00 am at the Hobble Creek 10th Ward at 495 South Canyon Road, Springville, Utah. A viewing will be that morning at 10:00. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery located at 1997 South 400 East in Springville, Utah.
