Raymond Dee Dunn

September 20, 1923 — March 1, 2012

Raymond Dee Dunn, 88, of Springville, Utah, passed away March 1, 2012 in Provo, Utah. Raymond was the seventh of ten children born to William "Ed" and Sarah Jane "Jennie" Packard Dunn. He was born September 20, 1923 and lived most of his life in Springville. During his youth, he enjoyed participating in sports, playing football for Springville High. He received his high school diploma while serving during World War II in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic based in Maui, Hawaii. He was proud of his four years of service.

He married his sweetheart Shirley Van Wagoner, February 24, 1949 in Provo; with the marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 26, 1957. They celebrated over 51 years of marriage together.

Raymond loved the outdoors; hiking, fishing, and especially hunting with his dad and brothers and later with his three sons. He followed his father's example by working in the garden and fixing and caring for his home and cars with great skill. He started working at his dad's service station and garage, took several welding courses at UTC; but spent the majority of his work career at Geneva Steel-retiring in 1984 after 34 years. He was a high priest in the L.D.S. Church living the gospel through his example of honesty, generosity, hard work, and love.

He is survived by his six children: Michael R. Dunn (Ella Bird) of Nephi; Gregory L. Dunn (Sue Beecher) of Lyman, WY; John Phillip Dunn (Dawn Wheeler) of Provo; Laura Ann Dunn Bodrero (Travis) and Karalyn Dunn Wood (Steven) of West Jordan; and Susan Dunn Chesnut (Lynn) of Provo. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; his brother William "Bill" Packard Dunn of Sonoma, CA; and sister Norma Jean Dunn Anderson (Andy) of Brigham City. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sisters and brothers: Juanita Larabee Averett, Elmer, LuRean, Francis Brown Stone, Eva Nelson, Norman, Beverly Montague Bingham; and life-long friend Mont Gustin.

Friends and family are invited to attend viewings on Friday, March 9, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville, Utah and Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 9:30-10:45 at the Springville Third Ward, 355 E. Center; with the funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment with military rites will be held at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery, 1997 South 400 East.

Special thanks to Dad's caregivers: Lynn & Susan Dunn Chesnut and Jonathan Haws & family for their compassionate service. We love you Dad-Grandpa!
