Ray Cope, age 91, was born in Tropic, Utah on August 7, 1924 and died June 2, 2016. He was preceded in death by his father, James Austin Cope, his mother, Irma Shumway and his brothers Bernard, James, Evan and Lloyd. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Renee Hughes on December 14, 1942 in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple.
Ray is survived by his five children: Gerene Bodmer (Paul) of Richland, Washington; David (Janet) of Springville, Joel (Brenda) of Springville, Martena Parker (Dale) of Springville and Cyle (Christina) of Spanish Fork. “Papa Ray” was blessed with 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 7 great, great- grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Clyda Smith (Veon), Donna Nelson (Clark), Margaret Daley (Orin) and Beth Peterson (Tom) and sister-in-law Kay Cope (Lloyd).
Ray served in the U.S. army during World War II, seeing action in the Philippines. He loved his garden and his family. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including Home Teacher, Bishop, High Counselor and Patriarch of the Springville Stake for many years. He owned and managed Springville Meat and Cold Storage for twenty-two years and was then employed by the LDS Church as the project manager of a four Stake Welfare Farm from 1973 to 1990. He and Renee served 2 Welfare Missions while living at home. They also served as Temple Workers in the Provo Temple.

Funeral Services will be held June 7 at 11 AM in the Springville Stake Center 245 S. 600 E. in Springville. Viewing will be Monday evening June 6, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S. in Springville, or Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at the Spanish Fork Cemetery.
