1928-2013
Russell Ardeen Childs beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and dear friend passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 after 11 years battling Cancer, Diabetes and complications of the aging process. Ardeen was born August 8, 1928 to Russell Clay Childs and Clara May Cornaby Childs in Springville, Utah. He was the oldest of 7 children. He attended school and graduated from Springville High School where he was a star basketball player. He married Nida Marie Mendenhall on August 11, 1948 in the Logan Temple. They were married for 65 years and were an example of true love and devotion to each other.
His vocation in life was heavy road construction. He was the contractor on many of the roads in southern Utah and southern Nevada. He was one of the originators, along with Jack Whiting, of Western Rock Products. He also owned and operated R.A. Childs Inc. in southern Utah and Airway Rock Products in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a hard worker and taught his children to work hard as well. He also provided a lot of service with his equipment and manpower.
He lived in Las Vegas, Cedar City, St. George and Provo, Utah. He loved the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings including Bishop, faithful temple worker and served a temple mission.
His true love was his family and genealogy work. He was a gardener and carpenter having built two beautiful homes to perfection. Ardeen had a great love for sports. He was a "true Blue" follower wherever he lived and found it a blessing to be able, upon his retirement, to live close to these great teams.
The family wishes to thank Dr. E.J. Corry and Encompass Hospice Care, specifically Nate Tanner and Robyne Peabody for their compassionate and professional care.
Ardeen is survived by his wife Nida, and children: Susan Durfee, Steven, Rick (Monika), Tom (Sandra), Russell "Chip" (Jennifer); 25 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, brothers Floyd, Fred. He was preceded in death by daughter Barbara, his parents, brothers Dale and DeVere, sisters, Delores and Carolee, grandson Daniel and daughter-in-law Cheryl.

at 2:00 p.m. Prior to the funeral, a viewing will be held at the church from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
