Paul Fredrick Rohl

November 23, 1926 — May 7, 2011

Paul Frederick Rohl passed away May 7, 2011 after a short illness at URMC. He was born November 23, 1926 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, California to Paul Frederick Rohl and Ruth Thelma Campbell. His early years were framed with family and good friends, enjoying Laguna Beach and Catalina Island. As a young boy he acquired the love of boating, surfing, snorkeling and worked as a lifeguard.

He attended elementary school on Burnside Avenue and High School at Alexander Hamilton. In 1944 he proudly enlisted in the Navy in Hollywood, California and served as gunner's mate on the USS Boise and was on active duty in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Cony. Upon discharge from the service, he enrolled in city college, majoring in general education. On completion, he worked a short time in car sales before joining 3M, where he worked selling photo copiers and traveled for the company many years.

In 1976 he married Hazel Alene Driggs who worked in the same building of offices. They enjoyed a good life, beach front and sunset. After retirement, they purchased a home up Hobble Creek Canyon to be closer to her family, enjoying summer months in Utah and winter months at Balboa Island, Newport Beach with many friends.

Paul was very active in civic affairs and Elk Lodges. At the Provo Lodge he was honored as "Elk of the Year." He worked on several committees and projects and along with the annual spring cleaning of Wapiti Camp for persons with disabilities in Toole Canyon, he got donations going for yearly Thanksgiving dinners for the homeless at the Provo Elks Lodge. Besides providing meals at this event, they also had a great winter coat give away and brought in the Public Health Department to give vaccines to all. This is a service that still continues today.

Due to his health and other interests, Paul gave up thoughts of going back to California and "Sunshine". He resigned to relax and enjoy Utah's beauty of mountains and 4 seasons.

Paul is survived by his best friends Bill and Rosie Roe of Palm Springs, California. They have always maintained their friendship through many years. He is also survived by his Stepsons "Bill" (William) King Driggs III of Orem, "Ray" (Raymond) King Driggs of Alpine and close friend Lila Anderson of Provo whom he shared much of his life and times of later years.

Paul's desire has been pre-arranged to be cremated and interned by his wife Hazel Alene Driggs in Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, off of Highway 89. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, May 16, 2011.
