Patricia Lodge Whiting

Patricia Lodge Whiting of Springville, died on October 16, 2011. She was born on June 3, 1916 in Tooele, Utah. She attended school in Tooele, where she was active in music and dance. After graduation from high school, she attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a teaching degree. She taught fourth grade in the Franklin Elementary School in Provo, Utah.



During her education at Brigham Young University, she met Verl Whiting. They were married on June 10, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple. Pat and Verl spent their entire life in Springville, where Verl was a partner in the Whiting & Haymond Highway Construction Co. They were blessed with four wonderful children: Sydna, David, Wendell, and Patricia Ann. They were their greatest creation and their most valued possession.



Pat was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various positions in Relief Society, Sunday School and MIA. Her specialty was training young ballroom dancers. Pat enjoyed dancing to the Big Band music and loved the Lawrence Welk television shows. She was a member of the Springville Cultural Arts Federated Club, and sang with the Musettes for many years. Her hobbies were collecting music boxes. She presented many music box programs and enjoyed sharing them with her family and grandchildren.



Pat loved to sew and made most of her own clothes. She won many awards for her sewing and fashion skills. She loved beautiful clothes, shoes, and hats. She learned to knit from her grandmother at an early age and knitted many beautiful sweaters and afghans, which were awarded blue ribbons at the State Fair.



She was employed by the Utah County Commissioners Office as a recording secretary for seventeen years. She enjoyed her many years there and retired at age seventy nine.



She is preceded in death by her husband, William Verl Whiting, a daughter, Sydna Strong, son in-law, Don Strong, and granddaughter, Stacy Strong. She is survived by her sister, Jeanette Turner of Claremont, California, and by three children; David (Bette), Wendell of Salt Lake City, and Patricia Ann Walter of Phoenix, Arizona. She has thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.



She spent the final fourteen years of her life in Sun City, Arizona, where she and her daughter (Trish) spent many memorable times together.



Services will be held on October 22, 2011 at the Wheeler Mortuary located at 211 East 200 South, Springville at 12:00 p.m. A viewing will be held prior to the service at 11:00 a.m.
