Othelia B. Edmonds passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the age of 88. She was born September 6, 1920 in Christie, OK to Bessie Mae Young and Arle Claude Broughton. On June 7, 1940, she married Delmer Lewis Edmonds in Claremont, OK. They were baptized and confirmed members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on July 4, 1949 in Fillmore, CA and were later sealed in the St. George Temple.
We always knew she loved us. She was a loving, giving, caring woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother whose larder was always full, with enough and to spare for others. She loved sewing, gardening, and raising animals. She created beautiful clothes for her daughters and raised magnificent gardens through the years. Education and learning were important to her. In a time when education was the exception rather than the rule, she was determined against all odds to graduate from high school and go on for higher education. She attended Tulsa Business College before marrying Delmer in 1940. During World War II, she served our country at the Reno NV Air Fields. Later, she and Delmer owned and operated a building maintenance service for 23 years in Vale, OR. They left Vale to serve the LDS Church in the eastern states for two years before retiring in Mapleton, UT. At the age of 80, she built a new little home in Spanish Fork with a garden and fruit trees. Since joining the LDS Church in 1949, she performed faithfully in many capacities, including: Primary, MIA, Sunday School, and Relief Society teacher; Primary and MIA presidencies; stake missionary; and full-time temple worker at the Provo Temple.
She will be missed by her daughters, Rita Edmonds, Orem, and Della Jones, Spanish Fork; eight grandchildren, Thomas, Matthew (Adina), Anjanette, Jared, Paul (Tess), Kendralee, Saren-dee, and Karilynne Jones; great grandchildren, Kyra, Brittany, Damon, Gavin, Madoc, and Brynn all of Spanish Fork; her brothers, Karl, Escondido, CA, Herb (Laura), Bountiful, UT, and John (Kathy), Vernal, UT. Those who have been waiting for her are her husband, Delmer, two sons, Jack Lane and Paul Lewis, son-in-law, Lt. Col. Thomas F. Jones, her sister, Lois, and her parents.
A viewing and memorial service will be held in the Spanish Fork Crosswinds Third Ward Relief Society Room (1660 S. 1400 East) on Friday, January 2, 2009 from 12 to 2 PM followed by interment at Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
