Norman Ray Barker of Mapleton, Utah died on June 12, 2016 at the age of 91.
Norman was born on November 6,1924 in Springville Utah to Hyrum and Minnie Averett Barker. He was raised in Hobble Creek Canyon, one of seven children. He went to school in Springville. He joined the navy during World War II on April 11,1944. He served on the USS Bladden in the South Pacific where he was part of the battle of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
He married Nortica Ella Cluff on July 13th 1946 in Provo, Utah. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept. 10,1947. They raised 4 children in Mapleton, Utah.
He is survived by his wife, Nortica, his 4 children, Carie Morgan (Dan), Kathy Bills (Gordon), Michael Barker, Gary Barker, (Melanie), his sister Marie West of Springville, and his sister-in-law, Martha Barker of Springville. He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers, Owen, Dean, Loyd, Glen and Wayne Barker and sisters in law, Wilma, Lois, and Blanch.
He has 11 Grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren whom he loved very much and who loved him.
Norman retired from Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co. where he was an electrician. He was a fire chief of Mapleton Volunteer Fire Dept. and served as a town Councilman in Mapleton. Norman was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served diligently in many positions and was a temple worker for many years.
There will be an evening viewing on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the Mapleton Wheeler Mortuary, 82 West 400 North, Mapleton, Utah from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 11:00 at the Mapleton Stake center, 970 N 400 E. There will be a viewing prior to the funeral from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
