Milan Alton Packard

February 12, 1933 — January 8, 2016

Milan Alton Packard, a lifelong resident of Springville, Utah, passed away peacefully at home on January 8, 2016 after a short bout with cancer.  He was born February 12, 1933 in Ogden, Utah to Alton W. and Merle Blackett Packard.

Milan graduated from Springville High School in 1951. He went on to graduate from Brigham Young University and the Colorado School of Banking.

He married Janet Louise Groesbeck in Springville on October 4, 1957. They are proud parents to Craig (Linda) Packard, Clay (Heather) Packard, Cheryl (Jeff) Kroneberger and Camille (Todd) Brown. They have 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and are expecting a third great-grandchild.

Milan always emphasized the value of hard work to his children and grandchildren, a quality he learned early in life while working with his father on the farm. His hard work ethic strengthened while employed for many of Springville’s original local highway road contractors.

After completing his education Milan started a career in the banking industry in 1961 with Central Bank, where he made many long lasting friendships. He later worked for Valley Asphalt as an area manager, overseeing many multi-million dollar projects throughout Utah. He was well respected and his experience valued. He retired in 2000.

Milan also served in the U.S. Army as an instructor for the Mountain and Cold Weather Training Command in Leadville, Colorado. He claimed these were some of his best years.

In the early 1960s a golf committee of local civic leaders was formed to develop Hobble Creek Golf Course. Milan is considered to be the most instrumental person in seeing this project through from start to finish.

In 1965 Milan established the Local Chapter of the Springville Rotary Club. He was honored in 2015 for 50 years of service.

Milan was an avid outdoorsman and thrill-seeker. He enjoyed time with family, reading, hunting, golfing, spending time at Lake Powell, traveling many miles of desert highway and coaching his boys in baseball. The Runnin’ Utes have lost an avid fan.

His loving wife Janet, of 58 years, his four children and his grandchildren who adored him, will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his sister Nancy (Richard) Menlove of Brigham City, Utah.

He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, W. Berton and Minnie Groesbeck.

We love you!
