Michael Alan Eldredge

June 29, 1970 — July 25, 2024

Mapleton, UT

Michael Alan Eldredge, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away on July 25, 2024, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mike was known for his generous heart, brilliant mind, and dedication to his family. He was born on June 29, 1970, in Kingsville, Texas, the third of ten children of David Arthur Jr and Mary Alice Eldredge. He married the love of his life, Judy Lynn Christoffersen, on August 16, 1994 in the Denver Colorado Temple. Together, they built a beautiful family and are the proud parents of five children: Noah, Michaela, Peter, Lillie, and Hannah, who they raised in Mapleton, Utah.

From his childhood, Mike was known for his analytical mind and ability with math and engineering concepts. His high school physics teacher wondered aloud for years why Mike’s younger siblings struggled in a class that Mike aced, despite spending the year reading novels in the back of the classroom. Mike won a national bridge-building contest as a high school senior and went on to earn a B.S. in Computer Science at Brigham Young University (which he funded through early morning shifts as a confectionary baker). He interrupted his studies for two years to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Buenos Aires, Argentina (1989–1991). In his career, he excelled as a software engineer at Novell and Ancestry.com. He also holds two U.S. patents.

In addition to his academic and career interests, Mike had a range of hobbies, many of which were funded in his youth by working as a paper carrier and as a critical employee in the family floral supply business. His love for flying led him to become a private pilot at age 17 and to engineer, tinker, and fly with dozens of remote-controlled airplanes, models, and many other flying objects. Mike studied violin and sang in the BYU Men’s Chorus. He was proud to have sung in the famed recording of A Thanksgiving of American Folk Hymns. He will remain known for his ability to recite the entirety of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and to interject snippets at just the right moment of any conversation.

Mike enjoyed engineering innovative solutions to problems and projects of all kinds, whether designing a wheelchair lift for Michaela or devising the next cloud migration strategy at work. He had a deep passion for family history, particularly teaching others how to preserve their family legacy. Mike's happy place was in Disneyland with his family.

Mike was the cherished son of Mary Alice and David Arthur Eldredge Jr. Mike was the third of ten children, and shared a deep bond with his nine siblings: Steve (Mandy-Marie), Julie (Christopher), Philip (Jennifer), Caroline, Lucy, Susan (Dula), Andrew (Natalie), Ruth (Douglas), and Marianne (Richard). To the end, Mike wove together a large web of love and respect, centered on his wife and children, and flanked on all sides by parents, siblings, in-laws, extended family, and a large collection of friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of LDS hospital for their compassionate and skilled care.

Friends and family are invited to join together to memorialize Mike’s sense of humor, his kindness and generosity of spirit, and his deep commitment to his Savior Jesus Christ. Services will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM at 1215 North 1000 West, Mapleton, Utah. Friends and family are invited to a viewing that will begin at 9:30 that morning.
