Meredith (Rich) Wilhelmsen

Meredith Wilhelmsen was born June 11, 1924 in St. Charles, Idaho to Ray Charles Rich and Mattie Maria Bair. She was born into a family with four older brothers, Lothair, Vernon, Asael and Vearl.

Meredith grew up on a farm in St. Charles, Idaho. She and her family knew hard work and never wanted for anything, even during the depression. She attended school in St. Charles where she met her future husband, Bruce Wilhelmsen. After graduating from high school, Meredith went on to attend the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah.

On November 18,1943, Bruce and Meredith were married in the Logan Utah Temple. To this marriage brought five children.  The Wilhelmsen family lived in several places during their life together beginning in St. Charles, Malta and Burley, Idaho, Yuma, Arizona, Pendleton, Oregon, Logan and Mapleton, Utah.  Bruce taught music in schools and Meredith worked after her children were raised for Sites Freight Lines and Logan Savings & Loan. Bruce and Meredith were married for 65 years before Bruce passed away in 2008.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 1 p.m. in the LDS Chapel located at 970 North 400 East in Mapleton. There will be a viewing at the Chapel from 11:45 to 12:45 prior to the services.  Condolences may be sent at www.wheelermortuaries.com

Meredith was a steadfast, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She served in many positions in the church including Relief Society teacher, Visiting Teacher/Ministering Sister and in the Presidency of the Young Women program.  She also wrote letters each month to the full time missionaries in her ward for many years.

She was an example of service.  She always thought about others and what she could do for them.  She had a quiet spirit and never wanted to bring attention to herself.

Meredith had a thirst for reading, writing, and loved the thoughts of others that were put to paper.  She had a dream of writing a children's book but never accomplished that dream.  She compiled notebooks of thoughts and some of her dreams and composed poems that came to her in the night. She also made greeting cards, in recent years, that she sent to family, friends and neighbors on every occasion. She was a fan of the Utah Jazz, and on game nights, she could be found in front of her television wearing her Jazz "jammies" and cheering the team on.

Meredith passed away peacefully at home on January 15, 2020, at the age of 95, surrounded by loved ones.

Meredith was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Wilhelmsen, her sons, Kevin (stillborn) and Alan  Wilhelmsen, Grandsons, Jeremy Wilhelmsen and Michael Jennings, and a grand-daughter, Angela Jennings. She is survived by her son, Wayne Wilhelmsen (Linda), Nampa, ID, daughter, Carla Lamph (James), Rexburg, ID, daughter-in-law, Wanda Wilhelmsen, (Alan) Mapleton, UT, daughter, RaNiel Dunn, (Miachel), Pendleton, OR, and 26 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren and 20 great great grandchildren.
