Josephine Melvina Gividen Johnson, 94, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 in Orem, Utah. She was born on July 12, 1914 to Joseph Gividen and Mary Alice Stone Gividen in Mapleton, Utah.
She married Wilford Martin Pulley July 9, 1930. They had a daughter, Janis Mary. Wilford died April 21, 1946. She then married Parley Boyd Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple January 26, 1949. Together they had a daughter, Nancy, and a son, Parley William. Parley Boyd died December 19, 1993.
Melvina worked on her parents' fruit farm, in a mercantile store, and at the JC Penny Company in Springville, Utah. She served as a Sunday School Coordinator, Relief Society Counselor and Secretary, visiting teacher, and Relief Society Teacher. She enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, and dancing.
Surviving are her children Janis Mary Angus, Nancy (Roger) Fowles, and Parley William (Tracy). She has 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. In addition 1 foster grandchild and 2 foster great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husbands, son in law Henry 0. Angus, parents, and siblings James Vance Gividen and Lila Lucas, and great great grandson, Garrett.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Mapleton 7th Ward Chapel at 1215 North 1000 West in Mapleton, Utah. There will be a viewing held Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville and Tuesday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the service. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
