Mavis Garrett Watkins

Mavis Garrett Watkins was born May 26, 1924 in Layton, Utah, to Willard Winner and Lovantha King Garrett. She passed away peacefully February 27, 2012 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center of natural causes.



Mavis spent her early years in Bingham Canyon, Utah, where she met and fell in love with Harry Clarence Watkins. They married on May 29, 1943; then lived in Utah, Oregon and California throughout their married lives.



In addition to her most challenging career of wife, homemaker and mother to her eight children, she worked as a genealogical researcher for the University of Utah Department of Medical Genetics. After serving a mission to London England, she served as a temple worker at the Provo LDS Temple for over 10 years. Music was a lifetime love of Mom's. She was the lyricist for a published book of children's songs, and also wrote and produced numerous award winning Roadshows during the 60's and 70's.



Preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Harry, son Brion Kim, and siblings Willis Garrett, Mary Hakanson and Audrey Sahm. Survivors include her children Jan and Ray McCune, Orem, Utah, Todd and Sandy Watkins, Glendora, California, Garrett and Krisanne Watkins, Springville, Utah, Wendy Street, Portland, Oregon, Brooke and Bruce Williams, Shasta Lake City, California, Haven and Vinnie Watkins, Bountiful, Utah and Ril Werstler of Chico, California, as well as 30 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.



Viewing will be held Wednesday, February 29, 2012 from 6-8 pm at Wheeler Mortuary in Springville, Utah, with an additional viewing at the Hobble Creek 5th Ward Chapel, 1440 East 900 South Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 10-10:45 am, with funeral to follow at 11 am. Brief graveside service and interment at 3 pm in the Kaysville Cemetery.
