Marvin Kae Weight, 82, passed away April 13, 2009 at his Springville birth home after a lifetime of enduring, with grace and dignity, the crippling aftermath of poliomyelitis.
He was born August 12, 1926 in Springville, Utah, to Ernest Gilbert Weight and Belva Diamond. He attended Springville schools and graduated from Springville High School in 1944 where he enjoyed working with the high school teams as athletic manager. He continued his education at Brigham Young University, graduating in 1949 with a B.S. in accounting. He spent the majority of his career working at BYU where he retired after 32 years of service. He was a quiet, yet ardent, supporter of the university and an avid BYU sports fan.
He filled his life with activity and purpose. He was gifted with a beautiful high tenor voice and performed at numerous weddings, funerals, and church and civic events. He was a high priest in the LDS Church and served as financial clerk to three bishoprics and as a clerk in the Kolob Stake. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, horses, and the out-of-doors. He spent many hours in retirement building tack and saddles. Above all, he cherished his association with close friends and extended family. These associations made his life rich and full.
He married Janice Sargent September 2, 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS temple. She provided to him constant support, concern, and care. Together they reared five children. He considered his family to be his highest achievement.
He was preceded in death by his son John Gilbert, his parents, his sister Phyllis W. Crowder, and his brothers Creed and Vernon.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years; sons, Val of Salt Lake, Gary (Kristi) of Daniel, Clayne (Margo) of Mapleton; his daughter Ruth Ann of Fillmore; three grandchildren; his sister Dorothy W. Stewart of Springville; and his brother Roger of Bothel, Washington.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009, in the Kolob 7th Ward at 840 S. 400 E. Springville. Friends and family may call Friday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S. Springville or at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the services.
