Marvin Dewey Bird, age 86, of Springville Utah, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025 in Provo Utah surrounded by his loving family.
Marvin was born in Springville to Dewey and Lucille Winward Bird on March 22, 1938.
Marvin grew up on the family farm with his siblings, Reva, Marion and Roy. He loved horses, chickens and gardening and learned the value of hard work.
Marvin was a life long resident of Springville. He graduated from Springville High School in 1956. He had made many life long friends whom he remained close to his entire life. It was there that he met his Sweetheart and love of his life, Viva Marie Marsh. They were married for time and eternity on June 20, 1958 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Marvin was a loving and devoted husband and father, and loved his Savior, Jesus Christ. His discipleship was manifested in many ways throughout his life, by serving and ministering to everyone around him.
He was often found out on a ladder or in a tree pruning limbs to yield a better harvest for neighbors and loved ones alike. He loved his four wheeler and clearing snow on the sidewalks and driveways throughout the neighborhood.
He and Viva, along with their family, loved to get together, to can and preserve all kinds of fruits, juice, pickles and vegetables to share with family, friends and neighbors. He also loved playing card games and loved his automatic shuffler.
Marvin always had a hug and a smile for everyone he met. (whether you liked it or not :) ) He made everyone feel like you were one of his closest friends. He made so many lifelong friendships he deeply cherished over the years.
Dad worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for 34 years. He was an Engineer Technician, surveying and monitoring dams throughout the Wasatch Front. He also spent five years of his career in Fallon, NV reestablishing irrigation projects with the farmers in the area.
After retiring he returned to his hometown of Springville. Dad felt and was inspired by his patriarchal blessing that he would serve the elderly. He went to school to get his certification to be a Certified Nurse Assistant and worked at the Todholm care center for several years.
Marvin served two service missions along with his wife, Viva. They served at the Bishop's Storehouse and at the St. George Temple. Marvin also served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, including Primary, Sunday School, Bishopric's and Stake Presidency. His love for the Lord was apparent in all that he did. Marvin loved spending time with his family, hunting, camping, four wheeling, fishing, riding horses, trips to California and the beach and of course the annual harvest of fryer chickens. (If you know, you know! :) ) He loved reading Louis L'Amour books over and over, watching football on TV, telling jokes, sharing about the old days and loved anything to do with John Wayne, watching his movies many, many times. "Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway."- John Wayne.
Marvin loved supporting and serving his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their activities he was their biggest fan!
Most of all, Dad was the greatest example of unconditional love, selflessly serving others and loving and honoring our Mom.
Dad had a testimony of the Plan of Salvation and knowledge that families can be together forever. We know Dad was welcomed home into the arms of the Savior along with family and many friends.
It's not "Goodbye Dad, it's see you later."
He is survived by his wife Viva of 67 years, his six children, Scott (Donna) Bird, Lucinda (Cody) Olsen, Tim (Tina) Bird, Marcy Herrera, Ann (Kent) Bailey, MarDee (Cindy) Bird, 23 Grandchildren and many Great Grandchildren.
Marvin is proceeded in death by his parents, Dewey and Lucille Bird, his siblings, Reva, Roy and Marion, his In Laws Tim and LaPreal Marsh and his Grandson, Jeromy O'Brien and Sharon Evans (Niece).
We would like to thank the nurses and doctors, especially Dr. Brewster and other members of staff at Utah Valley Hospital for the loving way they cared for us and our Dad with dignity, respect and love during this difficult time.
