Martha Mae Vickers Vallentine
October 15, 1931 — February 21, 2016
Martha Mae Vickers Vallentine successfully completed her earthly mission and peacefully returned home to her Heavenly Father, family and friends on February 21, 2016.
Martha was born on October 15, 1931 in Houston, Texas as the youngest daughter of Herman Gilbert and Mary Lucy Gwinn Gilbert. She came from a long line of proud Texans and a Daughter of The Republic of Texas. She married Gene E. Vickers in Houston and they were soon sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Gene passed away in 1998 after many good and wonderful years together. She is survived by their children, Allen (Susan) Vickers of Herriman, Utah, Susanne Lawrence (Paul-deceased) of Alpine, Utah, Raychel Cole of Salt Lake City, Becky (John) Kruzel of Little Elm, Texas. Her family consisted of siblings Ray (Polly) Gilbert and Faye (Wayne) Courregeous, as well as 21 wonderful grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
Martha was known for the service she rendered throughout her life. Her focus was always on her family as well as, from an early age, her membership in the LDS faith. She was always willing to fulfill every calling energetically and had many fond experiences as a temple worker. She was able to see the beauty in everything, having a love of flowers, chocolate, and everything uplifting- always adding to her knowledge derived from others as well as the scriptures about God’s plan for us all.
After years of being a widow, she married John Vallentine from Springville, Utah in 2006. They enjoyed their time together tremendously and loved having him and his family in her life. He and his family were truly a blessing and joy for her.
A viewing will be held at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S. Springville, UT on Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Red Church, 1000 W. 1200 N. Mapleton, UT on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. There will also be a viewing preceding the funeral from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Alpine Cemetery following the funeral service.
