Marie (Barker) West

Our loving mother Marie Barker West 94, of Springville, Utah, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2021 in Ogden, Utah, with her daughter by her side.  She was born February 20, 1927, in Springville, Utah, to Joseph Hyrum Barker and Minnie Averett Barker.

She married Vincent West in 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.  She was a loving wife and mother.  She spent her early marriage years in Tooele, and later in Sunset, Utah.  After retirement, they moved back to her home town Springville, Utah.

Marie worked 1 year at the Tooele Ordnance Depot, and then later in life as a school lunch cook in Sunset and Springville, Utah.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She served in many callings such as Primary Teacher, Secretary, and Librarian.  She was a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers for over 50 years.

Mom was known for her big smile and giggle.  She loved life, her family, and was a hard worker.  She loved doing genealogy with her brother Norman and her daughter Afton.  She loved taking care of her yard, doing puzzles, reading, camping, Senior Citizens, and traveling with her husband to all 50 states at least once.  They spent several winters in Arizona.  She stayed in contact with her nieces, nephews and cousins after the passing of her brothers.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband Vincent, parents, brother’s Owen, Dean, Glen, Loyd, Norman, Wayne and son-in-law Charles Summers.  She is survived by daughters, Afton (Gary) Stanley, and Calene Summers, five grand children, seven great grand children, and five great-great grand children.

We would like to thank Inspiration Home Health and Hospice for their excellent care, especially, Cassie, Heather, Debbie and many others.

A viewing will be held December 7, 2021 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S. Springville, Utah.

In light of COVID only Graveside Services will be held at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery, 1997 S. 400 E. Springville, Utah.
