Our sweet, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother Marie Peery Johnson, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2010. She was born on October 19, 1917 in Mammoth, Utah to Rolland E. and Emily May Larsen Peery. She married LeRoy D. Johnson on February 19, 1935. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Marie spent her early childhood living in Mammoth, Utah. She later moved with her family to Springville where she attended and graduated from Springville High School. It was during her high school years that she began to date and fall in love with LeRoy. After their marriage, they raised their three children in Mapleton and Springville. Roy and Marie had a wonderful life together and their love and devotion for each other never failed. Roy passed away on August 10, 1983.
Marie lived a full and happy life. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints and spent many hours giving service to others. She was a successful businesswoman, owning and operating her own clothing stores both in Spanish Fork and Springville. She was active in the Springville Chamber of Commerce, the Utah Federated Women's Club, and she and Roy co- chaired the 1976 Springville Art Ball.
Marie loved her family most of all. They were the gems of her life. She was always giving service to them, and she is affectionately called "Grandma J" by family and friends. She was a true genealogist and loved the work. She wrote extensive histories of her ancestors and created beautiful genealogy books for her children and grandchildren. Marie was a friend to all and touched the lives of those who came in contact with her. She made the world a better place. She will be greatly missed.
Marie is survived by her three children; Carol (Cy) Nielson, Benjamin, Utah; Dean (Sondra) Johnson, West Jordan, Utah; and Mary (Lee) Bate of Springville, Utah. She has eleven grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren and twenty-three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 31st at 12 Noon in the Springville Stake Center 245 South 600 E (Kolob Circle) Springville, UT. Friends may call at the church prior to the services, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
