Marian Dilworth Wilson Campbell

February 13, 1918 — September 6, 2009

Our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marian Dilworth Wilson Campbell, was born February 13, 1918 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Bascom Lee Wilson and Marian Vida Dilworth. Marian lost her mother at age two and grew up in Greenville NC in the care of her Granddaddy Wilson and "Mama" and a loving extended family while her father, a military doctor, served in Europe. Marian played on the basketball team in high school and starred in the senior play. She attended East Carolina Teacher's College one year and spent the next summer with her father in CA where she met and fell in love with her future husband, Lt. Blaine B. Campbell, Salt Lake City. They were married June 30, 1937 at March AFB. Marian served as president of the Officers Wives Club several times and was a Girl Scout leader for her daughters. They lived all over the world until Dad retired in 1967 and they moved to Fort Myers, Florida. They enjoyed going to the beach together and the many visits from children and family.

Marian joined the LDS Church in 1952 and our family was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1955. Dad served as Bishop of the Fort Myers Ward for 10 years and later as Stake Patriarch. Mom was Relief Society Pres, Seminary teacher and a co-founder of the Genealogy Library where she volunteered regularly. They sang in the choir together and were beloved by the members of the Ward.

Mom and Dad celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 1987 a short time before Dad passed away. Mom continued to live in their lovely home for 17 years. Her sister and brother-in-law Beverly and John Gadd and their children who lived close by, lovingly helping Mom when needed and including her in their family celebrations.

Mom has always been the epitome of an elegant southern lady-dignified, always well-spoken, perfect manners, while having a great sense of humor. Everyone loved Mom's soft southern accent and ready smile.

In April, 2004 Mom moved to Mapleton, Utah to live with her oldest daughter until moving to Courtyard at Jamestown a year ago to receive the extra care she needed. Many, many thanks to the caregivers, nurses, doctors, staff and extended family for their loving service and visits to our mom.

Marian died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, holding the hands of her daughters with two grand-daughters present. Survived by 3 children, Blaine B. Campbell, Jr. (Pat), Rapid City, SD; Marianne C. Stephens (Kent), Mapleton, UT and Judith C. Loder of Waipahu, HI; 10 grandchildren, 28 great grand-children; sister-in-law Beverly Gadd (John) and her half-sister Jane Darden (George), Tulsa, Okla.
