Mamie McAllister Hjorth, 85, of Springville, Utah peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father, Monday, September 24, 2007. She was born February 17, 1922 in Panguitch, Utah to Arthur Dee and Elizabeth D Hatch McAllister.
At an early age, Mamie's family moved to American Fork, Utah where she was raised and graduated from American Fork High School. After high school she moved to New York where she worked as a nanny. When she returned home she began a correspondence with Paul Alma Hjorth and became engaged to him while he was on survivors leave. When he completed his service they were married in the Salt Lake Temple March 8, 1946. They established their home in Springville, Utah where they happily raised their 6 sons.
Mamie was a member of the LDS church where she served in many callings, including the Provo Temple where she and her husband served for many years. Mamie was well known for her portrayal of Emma Smith, which took her all over the United States.
She is survived by her sons: Alan (Sharon), Gary (Linda), Duane (Jane), Lynn (Libby), Arden (Terri), Lee (Starlyn); 20 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Two siblings: Stan McAllister and Elizabeth Crawford. She was preceded in death by her husband and 5 siblings.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 840 South 400 East, Springville, UT. Friends may call Friday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville or Saturday, one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
