Lucille Betts Haws

April 9, 1926 — May 24, 2012

Lucille Betts Haws passed away peacefully May 24, 2012 at the home of her daughter. She was born April 9, 1926 in Roosevelt, Utah to Clarence and Caroline Clisha Betts. Her childhood was spent at the family home in Ballard. She had many stories to tell about being raised with four sisters and six brothers. After World War II, she met the love the of her life, John William Haws, a young man from Vernal who spent six years serving our country in the South Pacific. She was working as a waitress at the time. They were married May 19, 1946 in Winnemucca, Nevada.

The majority of her life was spent living in Vernal, Utah. She was a fierce mother and grandmother who taught us how to love, serve others, and work. She received a great deal of joy from her extended family including many dear nieces and nephews. Nothing was more important to her than her family.

After the death of her husband in 2006, she moved to Springville, Utah to live near her daughter and grandchildren. We were blessed to have her near us and to care for her until her death. She is survived by her only child, Lorraine (Brent) Smith; three grandchildren: Kellie Larsen Oaks, Brandon (Rachel) Larsen, and Brian (Jana) Larsen; and eight great-grandchildren: Travis, Tiara, Cody, Kathryn, Wyatt, Shaynie, Brittany, and Carson; three sisters: Fern Milligan, Clara (Terry) Huxford, and Glenna Murray; and three brothers: Lenard (Joyce) Betts, Ralph Betts, and Kenneth (Sylvia) Betts. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and siblings: Ray, Dean, Glen, and Ellen. We will miss her dearly.

A celebration of her life will be held May 26 at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville at 1:00 p.m. Viewing at 12:00. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah.
