Loyal Dee Hastings, 76, passed away in Glendale, Arizona on April 21, 2009. Born in Norman, Oklahoma October 28, 1932, Loyal is the son of Joel Henry and Alvaretta Marie Hastings. Loyal married his college sweetheart, Janice Mendenhall, June 18, 1953 in the Manti, Utah LDS Temple. A graduate of Brigham Young University holding both an undergraduate degree in Political Science and a graduate degree in Public Administration, Loyal was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the USAF in 1955.
Loyal, a career Air Force Officer, operated fighter aircraft during a distinguished 22-year career which included decorated service during the Vietnam conflict.
Loyal and Janice celebrated 56 years of life together providing service to others. They served together as Missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Washington DC Temple.
Loyal leaves behind a great legacy of faith, work, and service. He is survived by his brothers Raymond and Arthur Hastings and sisters Genevieve Iverson and Wannabelle Iverson. He and Janice' posterity include their eight children; Joel (Danny), Diane (Clayton), Debra (Mitchell), David, Douglas, Deena, Dawna (Skousen), and Deanna (Annie Stoor); 36 Grandchildren and 18 Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 24, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Orangewood LDS Chapel; 4748 W. Orangewood Avenue; Glendale, AZ 85301. Visitation will precede the service from 10-11:00 am.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, April 27, 2009, 12:00 noon in Mapleton, Utah at the Mapleton 2nd Ward LDS Chapel; 475 N. 1600 W. (US Hwy 89); Mapleton, Utah. Visitation will precede the service from 11-12:00. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.
