Lou Jene (Mountford) Carter

May 22, 1933 — January 31, 2019

Lou Jene Mountford Carter, 85, of Springville, Utah, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, January 31, 2019. She was born May 22, 1933, in Payson, Utah, to James Harold and Vera May Searle (Pfeiffer) Mountford. Lou Jene married her high school sweetheart, Richard Clinton Carter. They were happily married for 63 years, until his passing in 2013.
Together, she and Richard raised four children. Lou Jene loved spending time with her family, and found joy in entertaining them in her home. She was also a proud grandmother and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s recitals, concerts and games.
She worked in the banking industry for a time but retired as the manager of the Mortgage Loan Department at Far West Bank to pursue her career as an artist. Lou Jene channeled her love of all things beautiful into her art. She enjoyed traveling with her artist friends to seminars and workshops and painting with them in studios and out in nature. Her own art studio looked over her beautiful garden, from which she drew inspiration.
For many years, Lou Jene served her community through her volunteer work at the Springville Museum of Art. She was a member of The Hafen Dallin Volunteer Guild for over 25 years, and she enjoyed the many friendships she made at the museum volunteering as a docent. She also sat on the museum’s board of directors for four years, serving as chairman of the board during her final year.
Lou Jene is survived by her children: Patrice, St. George; James (Jill), Springville; Cari (Gregory) Anderson, Orem; and Jeffrey (Kim), Mapleton. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and her sister, Jerry Mae Anderson. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and younger brother, Jon Harold Mountford.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Wheeler Mortuary located at 211 E 200 S in Springville, followed by a memorial service at the same location at noon. She will be interred at Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
Our family would like to thank the caretakers at Ashford of Springville Memory Care, Aspen Senior Center and First Choice Home Health & Hospice, who tenderly cared for Lou Jene over the past years.
