IN LOVING MEMORY OF LORETTA GILES BACKETT
Loretta Giles Blackett, 86, of Springville, Utah our Mother, Sister, Grandmother Cousin, Aunt, and Friend passed away Thursday April 23, 2020.
Loretta was born to Edwin Tadd Giles and Mildred Barker Giles, February 2,1934. She is the oldest of 3 daughters, then came Ardith Giles Ruff, and bringing up the rear, Barbara Giles Thorpe. These 3 sisters were inseparable. They loved spending time with each other whether it be vacations right on down to their weekly Friday shopping day. It was rare not to see the 3 of them together, they had a bond that very few siblings have. They were truly BEST FRIENDS!
Loretta attended schools in Springville, she graduated from Springville High School. It was while she was attending school that she met the love of her life, Jim Blackett. After graduation they got married June 4,1953. They made their home in Springville where they raised 5 children. Loretta was an excellent cook and baker. Sunday dinners were always something to look forward to. We have all tried to duplicate her dinner rolls but we think she kept a secret ingredient from us. She was an excellent quilter. She always had a quilt on in her living room to work on when she had some time. Loretta loved spending time at her property up Hobble Creek Canyon with the family. She put in so much time and effort working side by side with our Dad to make it what it is today, her rules and all. She also loved "play days" where she would get together with family and play card games all day and night. That was her idea of a good time. She loved to gamble with her mother and sisters, she actually had a book that she would write down what she would give to each of her kids if she "hit it big"!
At the time of her death, Loretta was a resident of Hearthstone Manor. She appreciated all the assistance and care she received from the staff. She had overcome several setbacks; she was one strong woman! She never complained about her situation, she just kept on moving forward. Loretta was loved by all she knew.
Loretta is survived by her 5 children: Jim (Laurie) Blackett; Dale (Kristie) Blackett; Julia (Mike) Palfreyman; Laura (Jim) Boben; and Mark (Darci) Blackett. Also 2 sisters: Ardith (Glen) Ruff and Barbara (Taylor) Thorpe and 1 Brother-in-Law, John (Ann) Blackett. 15 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren with 2 on the way, Nephews, Nieces, Cousins, and friends.
Loretta is preceded in death by her husband Jim Blackett and her parents Edwin Tadd & Mildred Giles.
